Dr. Kristine Maya, PT, DPT started her Physical Therapy career as a Physical Therapist Assistant in 2007 and eventually went on to earn her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Findlay in 2016.  During the years leading up to earning her doctorate degree, Dr. Kris was studying pre-med at DePaul and also earned a B.S. in Healthcare Management.  

 

Dr. Kris enjoys working with a wide variety of patient populations, but excels in treating orthopedic diagnoses, including post-operative rehabilitation, which she has specialized in over the last 12 years of her career. 

 

She began her physical therapy career working with an orthopedic surgeon group in northern IL, which included numerous specialists including shoulder, hip, spine, knee, and ankle. During graduate school, she worked with a team in a wellness office in downtown Chicago, which included chiropractic care, spinal decompression, acupuncture, massage therapy, and nutritional therapy.  After graduate school, she worked in a local neighborhood clinic where she began treating vestibular disorders and furthered her education in treating orthopedic conditions. In the beginning of 2019, Dr. Kris accepted the position of a staff Physical Therapist for a renowned hip surgeon in the Chicago area, where she has gained specialized experience in treating a variety of innovative and advanced surgical & non-surgical hip diagnoses.  

 

Dr. Kris has completed numerous continuing education courses including: general orthopedics, orthopedic manual therapy, rehabilitation of sports injuries, advanced lumbar/SI joint treatment, the McKenzie Method, and treatment of vestibular disorders.  Her clinical experience also includes treatment using myofascial release, kinesiotaping, Graston Technique (GT), Active Release Technique (ART), Dry Needling (DN), and the management of work conditioning programs.  

 

In her younger years, Dr. Kris was a softball pitcher and a dancer for over 10 years.  In her free time she enjoys live music, the outdoors, running and weight training.
